What to have printed on it

The wording is the part most people get stuck on, and short wins. A name plus a two-to-four word phrase reads clearly from across a kitchen, while longer text has to shrink to fit the print area. Names work harder than jokes for children. For a milestone gift, a name and a year — "Dave's Kitchen, Est. 1987" — ages better than a pun, because the joke wears out and the date doesn't. Black or white?

Black hides sauce, char and the evidence of the sausage incident, which makes it the sensible choice for barbecue duty — and white text on a black apron is the most legible combination from across a garden. White is the better canvas for photo designs and colour prints, and suits the kitchen baker.

Adult, kids and business aprons

The adult apron is cut generously with an adjustable neck strap and two front pockets, so it fits the wiry and the well-fed alike.
