Personalised Water Bottle or Tumbler for the Gym: Which Survives a Bag

Personalised 600 ml insulated water bottle, the leak-proof gym choice

A gym bag is where drinks containers go to fail: they travel on their side under a damp towel, get dropped on tiled floors, and are expected to hold a workout's water in one go. Three of our pieces are bought for the gym, and they solve different halves of that problem. This is the honest comparison, with the leak question answered first because it is the one that ruins a bag.

The three, side by side

Piece Capacity Lid On its side in a bag Best for
Water bottle 600 ml 600 ml Screw cap, carabiner Yes, leak-proof shut The bag, the bike, the class
20oz skinny tumbler About 590 ml Flip-top, straw No; splash-proof only The car, the desk, upright in a side pocket
40oz tumbler with handle 1.2 litres Slide lid, straw No; leak-resistant upright The gym floor, the long session, carried by hand

If it goes inside the bag: the bottle

The 600 ml insulated bottle is the only one of the three with a screw cap and no straw hole, so it is the only one that can lie on its side under a towel. Double-wall aluminium keeps the water cool through a session; the carabiner clips it to the outside of the bag when the inside is full; at 20.5 by 7.3 cm it fits a side pocket. It is the right choice for classes, the bike, the swim bag and anyone who throws the bag in a locker.

If it stays upright: the 20oz

The 20oz skinny tumbler is for the person who drives to the gym: it fits the car cup holder, stands in the bag's side pocket, and the straw means a drink between sets without unscrewing anything. A straw hole is a hole; keep it upright. Vacuum-insulated, so ice survives the session.

If it is carried by hand: the 40oz

The 40oz tumbler is the gym-floor cup: 1.2 litres is a whole session's water, the handle means it is carried like a jug rather than gripped, and it sits by the bench. It does not go in a bag, and it is not meant to. Nobody who owns one puts it down and loses it, because the name is on the side.

Drops

All three are steel or aluminium, not glass, and all three survive a changing-room floor with at worst a dent. The printed wrap does not chip, because the design is in the coating rather than a sticker. The iced coffee glass, for the record, is not a gym piece.

Names on gym kit

A gym is a room full of identical black bottles. A first name in Block or Mono in a strong colour is the layout that gets a bottle back from lost property and stops a tumbler being picked up off the wrong bench. "5k Saturdays", "Refill, please" or a club name work as the second line. The font guide shows the six.

Washing

All three are hand-wash: warm soapy water, a bottle brush, dry upside down, straw brush for the tumblers. Dishwasher heat is bad for the insulation and dulls the print. Rinse after anything other than water; protein shake left overnight is the reason bottles get thrown away.

Everything is printed to order in Cheshire, usually dispatched within one to three working days, with free UK delivery. Because each piece carries the name you type, it cannot be returned for a spelling change. The full drinkware comparison covers the pieces that live at home, and the gym pieces are in personalised mugs and travel flasks.

Frequently asked questions

Which personalised drinks container can go in a gym bag on its side?
Only the 600 ml water bottle, because its screw cap has no straw hole. The 20oz and 40oz tumblers have straw lids and must stay upright.

20oz or 40oz for the gym?
20oz if it rides in the car and a bag pocket; 40oz if it is carried by hand to the gym floor and needs a whole session's water in one fill.

Can gym bottles go in the dishwasher?
No; hand wash all three. Dishwasher heat affects the insulation and dulls the printed wrap. Rinse after shakes and use a straw brush on the tumblers.
