Mug, Tumbler or Glass: Which Personalised Drinkware to Give

Personalised 20oz tumbler, one of five personalised drinkware pieces compared

Personalised drinkware is the gift people default to and the one they most often get slightly wrong: a tumbler for someone who only drinks tea at home, a mug for someone who is never at home. The fix is to choose by where the drink happens. This is our five pieces compared that way, with the washing and lid facts that decide it.

The five, side by side

Choose by where the drink happens

  • At home, tea or coffee: the mug. The only one that takes boiling water and the dishwasher, and the only one with a photo.
  • In the car or on a train: the 20oz. It fits a cup holder and a bag pocket, and the flip lid stops splashes.
  • At a desk all day, or the gym: the 40oz. Most of a day's water in one fill, carried by the handle.
  • Iced coffee, matcha, smoothies at home: the glass. Cold only, hand-wash, and the prettiest of the five.
  • In a bag with a laptop or school books: the bottle. The screw cap is the only genuinely leak-proof lid here.

The two facts that decide most orders

Dishwasher: only the mug. The steel pieces are hand-wash to protect the vacuum wall, the glass because the print is on the surface. If the person will not hand-wash anything, buy the mug. Leaks: straw lids are splash-proof, not leak-proof; a straw hole is a hole. For a bag, the bottle.

What to print on each

A first name, large, in one colour works on all five. Photos on the mug only. Logos on the tumblers, the glass and the mug for a business. Long wording shrinks on the curved pieces; the mug guide and the glass guide have the lists, and the 40oz vs 20oz comparison settles the tumbler question.

Everything is printed to order in Cheshire, usually dispatched within one to three working days, with free UK delivery. Because each piece carries the name you type, it cannot be returned for a spelling change. The full shelf is in personalised mugs and travel flasks.

Frequently asked questions

Which personalised drinkware is dishwasher-safe?
Only the ceramic photo mug. The steel tumblers and the bottle are hand-wash to protect the vacuum insulation, and the glass because its print is on the surface.

Which personalised cup is leak-proof for a bag?
The 600 ml water bottle with its screw cap. Straw lids on the tumblers are splash-proof for a cup holder or desk, not for a bag on its side.

Mug or tumbler for a gift?
Mug if the drink happens at home; 20oz tumbler if it happens in the car or on a commute; 40oz if it happens at a desk or the gym all day.
