Housewarming and New Home Gifts You Can Personalise

Personalised jute market bag, a new home gift

The problem with housewarming gifts is that they arrive in the week the house has no shelves. A plant, a candle, a framed print: all lovely, all put down somewhere and lost in a box. The gift that works is used in the first week, lives in one room, and carries the name of the house or the people in it. This list is sorted by room.

Kitchen

A personalised apron with the surname and "est. 2026": the first meal cooked in the house is a small occasion and the apron marks it. A pair of fabric coasters with two names for the first cup of tea on the floor among the boxes. A photo mug with a photo of the front door, or the old house, or the dog in the new garden.

Fridge

A set of three photo magnets: the keys in the hand, the first night's takeaway, the view. Or a lock and key heart magnet with two names and the moving date for a couple's first place together; the design is literally a key.

Hallway and the Saturday shop

A personalised jute market bag with the surname or the street name: it stands up on its own by the door, takes the first big shop, and is carried to the new local market for years. The jute bag guide covers how it wears.

The coffee table

A wooden coaster with two names and the completion date. Small, and the only object in the house that records the date they got the keys.

Wording that dates well

  • The Ahmeds · est. 2026
  • 14 Oak Lane
  • Home, at last
  • First home · March 2026
  • Sam & Priya's kitchen
  • Welcome to ours
  • Our first place
  • The house on the corner
  • Keys: 3 March 2026
  • Mortgage HQ

Use the surname if they share one, both first names if they do not, and the street name only if they are staying a while. Serif for an "est." line, Script for a couple, Block for the jute bag. The font guide shows the six.

Timing

Send it two weeks after the move, not on moving day. By then there are shelves, the kettle has been found, and a gift with the address on it means something. Everything is printed to order in Cheshire, usually dispatched within one to three working days, with free UK delivery. Because each piece carries the wording you type, it cannot be returned for a spelling change, so check the new address against the change-of-address card. More is in home and living and gifts for couples.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good personalised housewarming gift?
Something used in the first week and kept in one room: an apron with the surname and the year, a pair of named coasters, photo magnets for the fridge, or a jute market bag with the surname or street.

What should I write on a new home gift?
The surname with 'est.' and the year, both first names for a couple, or the street name if they are staying. The completion date on a coaster is the detail nobody else records.

When should I give a housewarming gift?
Two weeks after the move rather than on moving day, once there are shelves and the kettle has been found.
