The person who is always away is hard to buy for because nothing heavy or fragile survives their life. A t-shirt does: it folds flat, weighs nothing, and gets worn in the airport, on the trip and in the photos. We make two travel tees, and this is which suits whom, how to size for someone you rarely see, and the small things that post with a shirt.
Live Love Explore
The Live Love Explore tee is the softer of the two: a wanderlust graphic in a classic unisex fit, for the gap-year sister, the friend planning the next trip, the student going abroad, the holidaymaker who counts down. It is worn with jeans to the airport and with shorts on the trip.
Travel Is My Therapy
The Travel Is My Therapy shirt has an aeroplane and a line that is more of a statement: for the frequent flyer, the pilot, the backpacker, the digital nomad and the brother who books flights on a Tuesday night. It is the one more often bought for men, in a unisex fit that also suits women who like a relaxed tee.
Sizing someone you only see at Christmas
Ask someone who lives with them to measure a t-shirt they wear, laid flat: across the chest (armpit to armpit) and the length (shoulder seam to hem), and match it to the size guide in the product images. Between sizes on a relaxed tee, go up. If nobody can measure, go by a tee you have seen them in that fits well and pick the same lettered size in the guide, one up if in doubt; a slightly big travel tee is worn, a tight one is not.
Fabric and washing
Soft cotton (the garment label carries the full composition), a classic fit, a printed graphic positioned centrally and checked in Cheshire. Machine wash cold, inside out, with similar colours; tumble dry low or hang dry; do not bleach; do not iron over the print. Hostel washing machines are not gentle, and the print copes.
What posts with it
A shirt fits a padded envelope with room for one flat thing: a tassel bookmark with their name for the long flight, or a fabric coaster with "Back soon" for the desk they left. For the person who wants their own name on the trip, the 20oz tumbler fits an airline seat pocket and a car cup holder on both sides of the flight.
When to give it
Before the trip, not after: a travel tee given the week before departure gets packed. Birthdays, leaving drinks, a graduation before the gap year, Christmas for the one flying out in January. The tees are not personalised, so they can be ordered up to the last week; everything is checked and packed in Cheshire, usually dispatched within one to three working days, with free UK delivery. More in personalised clothing and graphic t-shirts.
Frequently asked questions
Which travel t-shirt should I choose?
Live Love Explore for the gentler wanderlust gift (gap year, holidays, students abroad); Travel Is My Therapy for the frequent flyer, pilot or backpacker who wants the statement and the aeroplane.
How do I size a t-shirt for someone I rarely see?
Have someone at home measure a tee they wear, laid flat, and match chest and length to the size guide. If nobody can measure, go one size up from the tee you have seen them in.
Are the travel t-shirts personalised?
No, they are fixed graphic designs, so they can be ordered close to the trip. For a name, add a personalised bookmark or tumbler to the parcel.
